Looking for more information?
Much information has been preserved about storm lamps and their manufacturers. This is mainly because there are a large number of collectors of storm lamps. Would you like more information? Below is a summary of the books and websites about storm lamps.
I've bought many books, but the books below were the most interesting.
Die Sturmlanterne Band 1, Maik Stieler, German
Reference book of the history of storm lamps and their manufacturers from Beierfeld and surroundings from 1880-1921. Very detailed, highly recommended.
Lanterns That Lit Our World, Anthony Hobson
My favorite among American storm lantern books. Very extensive, both about the different models and about the American manufacturers. Even the lesser-known manufacturers.
Classic Lanterns, Dennis Pearson
A very comprehensive book, a must-have for a collector. It contains a lot of information about the better-known American brands and their functioning, restoration, and what to look out for when buying.
The most complete and active (German) forum about hurricane lanterns, search the forum first, before posting a new thread.
Also a good way to exchange or buy old spare parts.
In my opinion the most complete and accurate website about the different types of hurricane lanterns, excellent resource for dating.
Another very extensive website about mainly German storm lamps
This is a wonderful website from Melanie, she has a great collection and her pictures are amazing.
The website of the Frowo expert Hans-Werner, worth a visit
